ARTICLE S - VOTING

Section 1. Voting:

Voting o­n issues or candidates placed before the church shall take o­ne of three forms:

a.  Voice vote in a business meeting.

b.  Written ballot in a business meeting.

c.  Polling during the first Sunday of the month during the scheduled services.

The Moderator and Deacon Board may choose the appropriate method of voting for each circumstance except as limited by Section 2, paragraph g of this Article or Article L, Section 3 regarding the election of officers at the Annual Business Meeting.

Section 2. Polling:

a.  Polling, as a form of voting, shall be administered by the Church Clerk and Moderator.

b.  A roster of eligible voting members of the church shall be maintained by the Church Clerk and be present at the polling place. Members who have voted shall sign the roster.

c.  O­nce a member has signed the roster, signifying that they have voted, that member’s vote cannot be changed. 

d.  An informational meeting or meetings led by the Senior Pastor, Chairman of the Deacon Board, or Moderator shall precede the balloting by at least o­ne week.  Regular quorum requirements do not apply to these informational meetings.  Written information may substitute for such meetings in some cases. Written information shall be distributed at least two weeks before the day of polling.

e.  Results of the polling shall be announced in the bulletin o­n the following Sunday.

f.  At least 25% of eligible members must participate in a poll to produce a valid result.

g.  Polling may not be used as a manner of voting in the following circumstances:

  1. The call of a member of the Pastoral Staff.
  2. The involuntary termination of a member of the Pastoral Staff.
