Grace Baptist Church - Bylaws - Article G, Article H, and Article I

ARTICLE G - CHURCH CLERK

Section 1. Election and Term:

The Church Clerk shall be elected at the Annual Business Meeting for a term of o­ne year.  He/She may continue to succeed himself/herself in office.

Section 2. Duties:

a.  In the capacity of Secretary for the church corporation, act as a designated legal agent of the church. Conduct, and retain, all legal correspondence of the church.

b.  Serve as recording secretary at all church business meetings.

c.  Maintain a current membership list showing manner of admission and dismissal, and issue letters of transfer as directed by the Deacon Board.

d.  Keep records of all minutes of the church business meetings and provide copies to the Deacon Board, Pastor, and any church member who requests them.

e.  Maintain orderly files of all reports and documents pertaining to the Clerk’s office.

f.  Provide a written report at the annual business meeting of changes to the church  membership.


ARTICLE H - DEACONESSES

Section 1. Election and Term:

a.  Term of office shall be so arranged as to provide that there shall be o­ne-third of the members elected each year for a term of three years.

b.  Elections shall be by the church in the Annual Business Meeting.

c.  Membership in this church for a least o­ne year is prerequisite to election as a deaconess.

d.  After serving o­ne half or more of a three year term, there must be an interval of at least o­ne year before reelection as a deaconess.

Section 2. Duties:

a.  Assist in the visitation ministry of the church, especially toward women, children and shut-ins.

b.  Send flowers or cards to members who are hospitalized or who are bereaved by the loss of immediate family and provide meals where there is evident need.

c.  Establish and maintain a prayer ministry among the membership of the church.

d.  Prepare the elements for the Lord’s Table.

e.  Assist the candidates for baptism. Provide laundering and care of robes and towels.

f.  Be available to provide counseling for women and girls.

g.  Prepare a detailed estimate of proposed expenditures for the Annual Budget and submit two months prior to the Annual Meeting.

h.  Maintain regular contact with the Chairman of the Deacon Board.


ARTICLE I - NOMINATING COMMITTEE

Section 1. Election and Term:

a.  The Nominating Committee shall consist of:

  1. Three members-at-large selected by the Deacon Board from the congregation.
  2. One deacon, appointed by the Deacon Board, who shall act as the Chairman of this committee.
  3. One deaconess appointed by the Deacon Board.
  4. The Pastor, who shall act in a non-voting, advisory capacity.


b.  The Deacon Board shall present the Nominating Committee to the congregation for ratification in the month of October each year.

c.  At-large committee members shall serve for a period of three years. Term of office shall be so arranged as to provide that there shall be o­ne-third of the members elected each year for a term of three years. That person may serve again after the absence of o­ne year. Husbands and wives cannot both serve o­n the Nominating Committee during the same year.

Section 2. Duties:

a.  Select and submit to the Annual Business Meeting one nominee for each elective office to be filled, provided qualified people are available.

b.  Provide the candidate a written job description of the position for which he is nominated.

c.  Present proposed nominations to the Deacon Board for confirmation.

d.  Post o­n the church bulletin board no later than two weeks prior to the Annual Elections, a list of all nominees for the elective offices.

e.  Present the list of candidates for election at the Annual Meeting.
