ARTICLE C - OTHER STAFF

Section 1. General:

a.  Ministry Directors, office, maintenance, and other staff personnel shall be subject to hiring and termination by the Board of Deacons. Each position shall be defined by a job description. Staff position shall be directly responsible to the Deacon Board for fulfillment of duties as delineated in the job description.

a.  Salary and/or benefits for other staff shall be fixed at the time of hiring and may be changed by annual budget or at any business meeting, provided such change has been considered and approved by the Deacon Board.

Section 2. Duties:

a.  Duties shall be set forth in the job description for each position.


ARTICLE D - DEACON BOARD

Section 1. Qualification:

a.  Qualifications for deacons are found in I Timothy 3:8-13.

b.  They shall exhibit characteristics of consecration, dependability, initiative and leadership.

Section 2. Election and Term:

a.  The Term of office for Deacons shall be so arranged as to provide that there shall be one-third of the members elected each year to serve for a term of three years.  Elections shall be by the church in the Annual Business Meeting.

b.  Membership in this church for at least o­ne year is prerequisite to election to this Board.

c.  After serving o­ne half or more of a three-year term, there must be an interval of at least one year before reelection as a Deacon. 

d.  The Moderator shall be a member of the Deacon Board and shall meet the qualifications in Section 1 of this Article. His membership shall not be counted against the total number of Deacons. He shall be a voting member of the Deacon Board, but shall not vote o­n matters pertaining to his office when called into question.

Section 3. Organization:

a.  Immediately following the Annual Business meeting the Deacon Board shall meet and elect the following officers: Chairman, Vice-Chairman, Secretary and Deacon’s Fund Treasurer.

b.  Immediately following the Annual Business meeting the Deacon Board shall appoint a Deacon to each church Ministry Team and, as provided or deemed necessary, to act as liaison between any church Ministry Team and the Board of Deacons.

Section 4. Duties:

a.  Work with the Ministry Teams as directed by the Constitution and By-laws.

b.  Establish the policies, plan the general program, and supervise the activities of the church.

c.  Assist the Senior Pastor in serving and administering the ordinances of the church.

d.  Assist in the visitation work of the church.

e.  Administer the Deacon’s Fund.

f.  Assist in maintaining spiritual oversight and contact with members as directed by the Senior Pastor.

g.  Examine all applications as they come for membership, as provided in Article A, Section I.

h.  Review the church rolls quarterly.

i.  Submit a Nominating Committee to the congregation for ratification in the month of October each year.

j.  Plan, promote and carry out the stewardship of the church financial program.

k.  Be responsible for all legal affairs of the church; however, the mortgage, sale, or purchase of church property shall require the approval of the congregation.

l.  Establish long-range goals in keeping with the purpose of this church and oversee their accomplishment.

m.  Present a unified budget to the congregation for approval at the Annual Business Meeting.

n.  Decide o­n the uses of the church building 

o.  Review the Constitution and By-Laws every two years and recommend changes if necessary.

p.  The Deacon Board is responsible subject to the will of the congregation.
